
Seventeen-year-old Yujraj Ram, a student of Anna Regina Multilateral School, tragically lost his life on Tuesday after being struck by a minibus along the Dartmouth Public Road in Region Two.
According to Police Headquarters, the accident involved a minibus bearing registration number BAC 597, which was owned and driven by a 34-year-old man from the Charity Squatting Area.
Reports indicate that the minibus was heading north when the incident occurred. The driver stated that Ram had just exited another minibus traveling in the opposite direction. After stepping off, Ram reportedly attempted to cross the road. He initially paused upon noticing the oncoming minibus, then tried to run across, but was struck in the process.
The impact caused the teenager to fall onto the roadway, sustaining multiple injuries. The minibus driver transported Ram, who was unconscious, to the Oscar Joseph Charity Public Hospital. There, doctors treated him for head injuries and noted that he was bleeding from his nose and mouth.
Despite efforts to save him, Ram succumbed to his injuries at approximately 15:20 hrs while receiving medical attention. His body is currently at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
The minibus driver is currently in police custody at the Charity Police Station and is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
